The late summer days are upon us! You might be running out of ideas to keep the kids entertained or maybe you've been pulled in a million directions and just need a family day. These five activities are healthy and active ways to soak in those summer days, and suited the whole family.
Kayaking or Canoeing
Nothing says summer like a day out on the lake. Kayaking and canoeing are great ways to get some family fun and exercise into your day! Both help you build your stamina, your core, and overall strength while being low impact. Both have also been proven to have mental health benefits! Need to teach your kids about teamwork? Put them in a canoe together.
Water Balloon Fight
Think your kids can't learn anything from a water balloon fight? Think again. Water balloon fights and other forms of roughhousing help kids develop resiliency and other cognitive skills. One scientist even found a correlation between how well kids do during such activities and how well they did in school. Also it's a super easy way to stay cool during these late summer days.
Hiking
Many people may not consider hiking when considering family friendly activities, but hiking is a great way to spend time together and to learn about nature. You don't have to hike up a mountain. Just finding a trail in a local nature park will work. Hiking has been proven to help children with creative thinking, decision making and confidence! It's also a great form of exercise.
Rollerblading/Skating
Roller-skating and Roller-blading are not just something you can do for fun. They have incredible benefits! Did you know that Roller-skating for an hour can burn just as many calories as a group spin class? Both also improve your strength, balance, core stability, and cardiovascular endurance. Grab a helmet, knee and elbow pads, and your skates for fun with the whole family.
Bike Rides
We are all very well aware of the physical benefits of Bike Rides, but did you know that cycling can help you sleep better, improve your mood, and improve your memory? Grab your kiddos and some helmets and hit your favorite nature trail or ride around the block.
